In 2009, I was appointed to serve on the Community Advisory Committee, representing the Eastern Market Preservation and Development Corporation. This was proposed a number of years ago for EM, first in the Barry Administration and then around 2012-2013, but the vendors fought it, with the support of now Mayor Muriel Bowser.

I am always amazed seeing photos from Open Streets events, and I wonder, how come I don't see that many bicycles out in the community ordinarily? -- Produce a brochure promoting biking in the greater neighborhood. Such an activity should be a key event during National Bike Month, in every major metropolitan area. Car sharing.

Personally, I think an arena is probably an acceptable choice, especially as it likely will increase transit ridership to events--the team estimates that the 70% of trips to the current arena will drop to 40%, with the much better transit location of Market East. Most economic development planners don't know the difference.
