It's why Friendship Heights in DC isn't doing so great retail-wise (" Friendship Heights and the production of retail decay ") and why DC can't really develop a strong retail center in the core. I do believe that basketball and hockey arenas should be located downtown and that they can contribute positively to economic development.

A problem on Market East and in Philadelphia, they said, is the city government only contemplates the future in response to developers’ wishes. Plus they have a bias against development to begin with, think developers are monsters because they make profits, etc. Most economic development planners don't know the difference.

Plans were made in the UK in 2006, 2008, 2011 and 2014. The last two of these were either not developed enough or were allowed to lapse. No country other than the UK has spontaneously abandoned its basic law on emergency management (in this case the Civil Contingencies Act of 2004). The plans were not connected to anything.

Equitable development plan. The student asked me about the equitable development plan , which I wasn't involved in developing It has a bunch of points. First is workforce development. But even before that I went back and forth on it. Who wants to hang out by a freeway? There just aren't that many jobs.

However, it never made it past Senate Banking Committee approval in 2014. This was publicly disclosed by Treasury Secretary Mnuchin in 2019.
