Even though transit usage is much reduced in DC post-covid, I don't think DC elected officials understand how central transit is to the city's competitive advantage and identity. And for the most part, DC City Councilmembers aren't interested in putting out the money to expand it to make it more useful.

Sometimes they're led by the elected official for that district. In 2009, I was able to spend half a day at Stoneleigh Elementary School in Baltimore County Maryland on International Walk to School Day. They had a very sophisticated approach. I've heard a school in Oxnard, California does something similar.
