Chief Heat Officers Are Being Hired

As climate adaptation takes hold, new positions are needed.

This trend is new to me, but becoming much more common as explained in this Government Technology article: “Chief Heat Officers Get into the Gov Tech Trenches.”

As these positions get established they will be another point of coordination for emergency management offices in those cities, counties and states.

Certainly there will be opportunities to collaborate on grant opportunities like Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC). Heat mitigation would be a very appropriate use of those grant funds.

Watch for more news coming since once one city takes the above step, others are sure to follow, especially as heat becomes the ever-increasing risk that we have observed in recent years.
