Angela,
My library does not have a TikTok presence, and after attending LMCC in Indy, I think we should. We have a staff of creative people who would love making the videos. But how do we get started? Do we open a library account and can that be managed using our computers? Do we make the videos on our phones? I just need a push in the right direction to get started.

Hi Alan! I would suggest opening a library account. I would go with a business account, which gives you analytics and the ability to upload videos from a laptop or desktop. You can make videos on your phone, or using a camera. I’m sure your creative staff members would love to explore all options, to see which content and style best suit your audience. Hi Angela! I recently stopped posting to two of the three(!) Instagram accounts our library has/had. I made a series of announcements on those accounts and via email blasts. Now I’m hoping to reach those who haven’t started following us on the account that we’re still posting to. How do I safely extract the list of followers’ handles in a safe way so that I can cross-check and reach those who’ve been left behind? There are plenty of companies and apps I’m seeing on Google searches, but I’m reluctant to launch or download anything. I’ve started with trying to copy and paste the three lists into spreadsheets but it is slow going.

Hi Jennifer! Great question, and unfortunately, there is no easy way to transfer followers from one account to another. You’ll have to do what you are doing, manually cross checking and then reaching out to each follower personally via DM. I saw that you posted a message at the top of your teens account about the switch. I didn’t see a similar message at the top of the kids account. I think you could do the same in the bio of the kids account as you did with the teens–a notice that this account is now closed. Do you have interns/volunteers who could help with this process? Another idea would be to actually do another post on each of the closed accounts, a big graphic that says We’re Moving! with details of how to follow you on the main account. That way, your followers would be more likely to notice that you’ve moved. I’m sorry the news isn’t better, and good luck. Thanks for reading the blog!
