The following are articles and reports on the web that the Community and Economic Development Program at the UNC School of Government shared through social media over the past month. Follow us on twitter or facebook to receive regular updates.

Items of interest related to CED in North Carolina:

NC Housing Finance Agency blog: Nearly One Million Low-Income North Carolinians Live in Unaffordable Housing. bit.ly/3rXSBb6

Wilson NC housing development featured by US Department of Housing and Urban Development. Public housing units built in the flood zone were hit hard by Hurricane Matthew; replaced with townhouse units closer to amenities and safely outside of the floodplain. bit.ly/45G3Kw2

DFI in the news:

UNC DFI presents to Shelby City Council on predevelopment analysis and next steps for revitalization of historic Hotel Charles in downtown. https://bit.ly/3QZADzC

Other CED Items:

Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies report compares costs of site built homes and newer manufactured home “CrossMod” designs (including masonry perimeter, raised roof, porch, and garage). Center for Community Progress explores land banks, policy questions arising from SCOTUS case Tyler V Hennepin Cty (held: local governments can foreclose or transfer tax-delinquent property to satisfy unpaid tax debt but must allow owner to recover any value that exceeds the amount owed). https://bit.ly/3KL6LDd
