CFP: Southeastern Michigan League of Libraries (SEMLOL) - Virtual Program - Dec 1st, 2023 on "Right-Sizing Your Collection)

The Southeastern Michigan League of Libraries, SEMLOL, is seeking presentations and speakers for the Fall membership meeting around the topic of right-sizing your physical collections. The Fall 2023 SEMLOL meeting will take place Friday, December 1st, 2023 from 2-4 p.m. on Zoom.

At this meeting, we would like to discuss balancing electronic and physical materials in our library collections. What factors go into your decisions when buying new materials? What goes into your weeding decisions? How do Diversity, Equity & Inclusion considerations impact your decisions to buy digital vs. print? How do the prices of electronic materials impact what you are able to buy, rent, or subscribe to? What access concerns factor into your acquisitions? What have been your pain points and successes in these endeavors? This could be an entry point for talks on: stakeholder education, Open Education Resources, challenged book policies, technological solutions, policy creation, and copyright, among others.

We are looking for a 30-45 minute overview presentation to outline these considerations as well as a few 10-20 minute topical talks delving into how specific aspects of this topic have affected your work. Live or pre-recorded content is acceptable, however we would like someone who knows the presentation to attend the meeting for Q&A.

Proposal Submission Deadline is noon on Oct 27, 2023.

Submit a proposal by sending the title, name of speaker(s), and an abstract of no more than 250 words using this Google Form by noon on October 27, 2023. Accepted proposals will be notified shortly after.
