CDT Accepting Applications for IT Leadership Academy

September 27, 2023 – The California Department of Technology (CDT) has opened the application period for its Information Technology Leadership Academy (ITLA), a training ground for those in the public sector seeking to move up in management or into the executive ranks.

This is ITLA’s 31st cohort, a program that fosters a collaborate learning environment where participants can engage in lively group discussions, share their professional experiences, and collaborate to address real-life scenarios that address the state’s unique leadership challenges. This year’s curriculum will include strategic planning, generative AI, techniques for creating a dynamic leadership brand, instruction in both remote and in-person executive presentation skill delivery, and a 360-leadership workshop that will include a one-on-one coaching session. The program will emphasize strategies needed for successful leadership in remote and hybrid environments.

The majority of classes for the 2024 program will continue to be conducted online; however, due to the high value associated with completing certain courses in person, a few classes will require in-person attendance at the CDT’s Training and Education Center, located in Rancho Cordova.

The 14-week program runs from Jan. 11 through Apr. 11, 2024, and is open to state and local government workers who possess a strategic and innovative mindset and aspire to move into executive or senior leadership positions. To be considered for acceptance, candidates must be serving in an IT supervisory or IT managerial capacity, ideally possess at least three years’ experience in one or a combination of both levels, and/or have completed the CDT’s Emerging IT Leaders Boot Camp.

Prospective participants must be nominated by their Chief Information Officer and submit a signed CIO Authorization Form as part of their package submission. A formal letter of recommendation is no longer required.

Applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. October 30. For more information or to apply, visit CDT’s workforce development.
