I guess WMATA still has this opportunity with upcoming 50th anniversary of the start of service--2026--to get their "stuff" together, rebuild the consensus, actually figure out how to operate the system, grow it, if possible, etc. We are keeping customers at the center of everything we do.

Many shifted to take out operations. But hands down, the easiest bread to bake comes from the recipes by Jim Lahey of the Sullivan Street Bakery in New York City, first popularized by an article in the New York Times in 2006 --although it took me til 2020 to finally start baking it regularly. Some were good at it, many sucked.

Around 2006 it "repaired" Thomas Circle, which decades before had been cut through with more road travel lanes. Again DC has a great example as c. 2000 it was national best practice in terms of improving streetscapes in commercial districts, significantly boosting success of those areas. They remade it into a full park circle.

But there are over 20 operators of the various services, including private operators of bus lines. My solution: Step 1: creating a regional transport association. Start over.
