UK Biobank enables medical research worldwide through vast database powered by AWS

From 2006–2010, UK Biobank recruited 500,000 UK citizens between the ages of 40 and 69 to supply biological samples (blood, urine, and saliva) and information about their lifestyle regularly on an ongoing basis. Since the database opened in 2012, more than 30,000 researchers from 90 countries have registered to use UK Biobank.

In 2006, we started interviewing people as they began their experience, then we went back 12 months later and then 12 months after that to be able to see what changed over time. We went through this process twice – once starting in 2006 and then again in 2012. But the reality is that very few people hit time limits.

This was proposed a number of years ago for EM, first in the Barry Administration and then around 2012-2013, but the vendors fought it, with the support of now Mayor Muriel Bowser. They still haven't. I mentioned it over time. We did this in 2008 or 2009.
